procas

I just thought of ten different things to do besides writing this post. Let the procrastination begin!

My name is Angel. I am a transfer from Santa Rosa Junior College. This first week has already exhausted me. I was originally a business major and after two years I realized that I could never sit in a little box for the rest of my life. I’ve always loved my English classes. My best experiences with school had always been in an English class. It’s funny how something that makes you happy can also make you really good at it. Attitude does count.

Last semester I took my first creative writing class. It was strange being able to write about what ever you felt like writing about. It was difficult too since I’m not use to writing stories like everyone else was in the class. Eventually I realized character development and dialogue was not something I could do. My niche was poetry. I’ve always read poetry and rarely did I try to actually write any. I always try to get my sister and friends to read some of the poetry books I bought. A lot of the times they wont understand the message or why it’s so beautiful. It’s a very different language. There’s a lot of things that I could never understand like computers and math.

I thought it was really interesting reading from the article about how note taking is basically our own language that we create. We are able to come with quick and short ways to remind us of something or even understand something better. I did really enjoy reading Szwed’s article though.

  1. I see that you are a very insightful writer, able to see what you are weak at and confident enough to admit them. This will no doubt help in your pursuit of writing and I am confident you will tackle them with the same ingenuity that has made you a capable reader of poetry.

  2. As someone else who just recently declared an English major I totally get what you’re saying about something you love also be something you’re good at. I appreciate your struggle with creative writing, although it is something I love to do, I’m glad you found your niche in poetry. I like what you said about poetry being a different language that not everyone can understand or appreciate. I think it’s interesting to think about it that way and I liked the comparison to technology being similar in that way as something not everyone is proficient in. I hope you continue your pursuit of poetry and can maybe get some of your friends and family to appreciate it as a different literary language!
