Anen Pham- Blog 3: Series Reading

Anen Pham- Blog 3: Series Reading

The series I chose to read was, “The Land of Stories- The Wishing Spell”. I would honestly have to say this book was the first book I didn’t think was boring. Everything about it was very interesting and fun to read. I also enjoy reading this book, because it is very easy to read and the humor of the two main characters, such as Alex and her twin brother Connor is funny. My series is about a twin sister and brother had went inside a magical book called, “The land of Stories” and fell down into a different world. This world consist of characters from fairy tales, such as Goldilocks, a frog, troll, evil queen, Cinderella, and Rapunzal. Alex and Conner are trapped in this fairytale world and their only hope to return back to their world is to gather all of the items written in the notebook given to them from their frog friend. If they succeed through the dangerous and difficult tasked in finding the items, than they will be granted one wish from “The Wishing Spell”. So far with both of their knowledge, they have been successful in finding some items, but they will soon face some obstacles, because the evil queen also, wants “The Wishing Spell” to free her from her imprisonment. A major problem Alex and Conner will face is the wishing spell could only grant one more wish to who ever will successfully find all items and the evil queen will do whatever it takes to get to it first. I really enjoy the adventure in this series. Sometimes when I’m reading, I feel as if I’m joining them in their journey to find the wishing spell items. The description of events in this book is very detailed, that I could easily picture the scene of the characters are in. I also, think this book would be well liked by all ages, because when I first read the title, I didn’t think I would enjoy reading this book, because it seemed too childish. But, now I can’t stop reading the book and take it with me to mostly everywhere I go. For children who enjoy reading about adventure, I believe this book would catch their attention. As for the resources available for this series are students and teachers may utilize the audio book, online reading clubs for this series, videos, forums, social network, and monthly book reviews. How I would use the available resources for this series in a classroom, is by having my future students build a Facebook page for one of their favorite character from the series book. I think this activity would be fun for my future students and help them develop their understanding of the characters within the series.
