Introduction and Dewey Response
Hi everyone, my name is Wejdan Ghunaim and I’m from Saudi Arabia. I taught English as a Foreign Language for a year before I got my scholarship to study in the United States. And now I’m here and it’s my last semester in the TIL Program. It is just few weeks before I get my degree the thing that makes me very excited. I think this class is going to be very helpful for me as a foreign language teacher of English because of the importance of writing skills even for nonnative speakers and learners. We always have to write English even in the very beginning levels of our education or career. And to be a teacher I want to learn the keys of writing that I can help my students with in their learning journey.
Dewe’s Reading Response,
The reading for this week was very interesting while is dealing with the real life situation for most of the schools around the world. I totally agree that children must have a very convenient environment to study. Education process is not only about teacher and students, it is much more beyond that, it is about the perfect or at least suitable curriculum, learning materials, suitable school environment and teacher-students relationship too. From my experience, I used to be a member of audience in the class where the teacher is the only person who has the right to do everything (talks, explains, and chooses who participate in class). It is the student’s right to participate, negotiate and even talk and give his/her opinion in the class. Any student doesn’t want to be just a listener in classroom, learning process is a sharing experiences between the teacher and the learner, not just that but it’s also to build confident in students. Again and as I usually say the family is the fundamental learning institution for children. It starts with home, parents and family then move to the school setting. Children usually carry what they already learned at home to their classroom desks, they continue to build on that old basis they have. That’s why teachers must be open and creative to deal with different children. It is not a mathematics class where children can participate and show their intelligence, the opportunity must be everywhere and in each classroom in school. They have to have confident in reading, writing, speaking, listening to have a great generation of people.
