Blog 1: Luke

Blog 1: Luke

My name is Luke Minton and I am a Public Relations major with a minor in English, this  is actually going to be my last English class ever! I am set to graduate this spring. I grew up in a farm town and always loved writing about what I saw and what I was doing that day. This lead me to be an English major and then shift to Public Relations.

In Szwed’s document, the question of what is literacy is proposed. I like that he seems to think that literacy is a multi-dimensional area of knowledge. If one can read an equation, is that not literacy? If someone can read a sign or knows how to read body language, shouldn’t he or she be considered literate?

I really loved this reading because to me reading is something that most people do not do enough. Reading is a way to travel millions of miles in seconds. It is a way to grow personally and intellectually.

Writing has always been a conduit for me to release the emotions and pressures that surround me. I love writing on my own WordPress blog because not only is it relaxing and enjoyable, I also know I am writing something that will improve my stock as a potential employee.

What really confused me about Szwed’s article is the fact that I thought I new what literacy was, now I am more confused than before. It was a very interesting article and unique perspective.
