I’m sorry I forget

I’m sorry I forget

I’m sorry I got frustrated. He was having a hard time trying to figure out what the printer icon looked like and maybe I wasn’t explaining it correctly. Maybe talking on the phone was a little difficult. We got the paper the print eventually. He thanked me with some enthusiasm and I felt some relief.

I forget that my Dad didn’t grow up with computers. It wasnt until I asked him the interview question that I realized how difficult it all must be for him. He didn’t start using one until he was an adult and I’ve had computers around almost my whole life. Even something as simple as printing out a paper is another world to him sometimes. So I’m sorry Dad that I forget you grew up in another time.

When you were growing up, how much school reading and school writing was done with computers?  What kinds of things did you do?  What values did your teachers place on computer literacy?

He didn’t have computers in the classroom growing up. It wasn’t until he went into the navy in the late eighties that he started learning how to use a computer. He remembers going to Radio Shack and buying video games that he would have to program in the computer.

procas

I just thought of ten different things to do besides writing this post. Let the procrastination begin!

My name is Angel. I am a transfer from Santa Rosa Junior College. This first week has already exhausted me. I was originally a business major and after two years I realized that I could never sit in a little box for the rest of my life. I’ve always loved my English classes. My best experiences with school had always been in an English class. It’s funny how something that makes you happy can also make you really good at it. Attitude does count.

Last semester I took my first creative writing class. It was strange being able to write about what ever you felt like writing about. It was difficult too since I’m not use to writing stories like everyone else was in the class. Eventually I realized character development and dialogue was not something I could do. My niche was poetry. I’ve always read poetry and rarely did I try to actually write any. I always try to get my sister and friends to read some of the poetry books I bought. A lot of the times they wont understand the message or why it’s so beautiful. It’s a very different language. There’s a lot of things that I could never understand like computers and math.

I thought it was really interesting reading from the article about how note taking is basically our own language that we create. We are able to come with quick and short ways to remind us of something or even understand something better. I did really enjoy reading Szwed’s article though.
