Article Groups, awesome!

Article Groups, awesome!

I have been impressed with all of the article group presentations! Each exercise has been different and original, but all of the projects tie together really well. I especially enjoyed the Hip Hip & Literacy group and what they came up with as their activity. Comparing rap verses and lines of poetry is a great idea for kids, especially if its with music that they know and can relate to. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed listening to music and the lyrics that certain artists come up with, so an assignment like this one would have interested me as a young student. As future educators, it is our job to come up with assignments that inspire our students to enjoy literacy both creatively and logically. In regards to all music genres- lyric writing is a form of expression, its about having a voice and telling a story. Asking students to compare the style/content of poetry and lyrics encourages them to understand a different point of view while putting their own into perspective- cool!
The Gaming & Literacy group had an entertaining activity as well and seemed to have put a lot of thought/effort into it. Trivia games are one of my favorite ways to study/learn, so I enjoyed being quizzed on random facts and concepts. The end product was inventive, although my group had trouble coming up with a sentence I think that it could be a great activity to do in future classrooms with a little extra time. The 21st Century Literacies group had great resources that I also took note of to use in the future, I am sort of out of the loop when it comes to new technology so it definitely clued me in as to whats out there…thanks guys!
