My competitive spirit

My competitive spirit

kicked in during the trivia activity. My favorite activity was the mad lib and how it was uploaded to popcorn. It appears there are many access points available now for teachers to engage students. There is virtually something for everyone, no matter the child’s learning style. I think the thing that freaks me out the most about this from a teaching perspective, is the need to be current on all these new, ever-changing technologies. Not only must a teacher know all the fundamental rules, tools, etc. necessary to guide students in the direction they want, but a teacher has to be up to speed on the digitized ways to get the student where they need to be. Is there enough time in the day to accomplish this without it taking over your entire life? Where is the line between knowing enough, and falling hopelessly behind? In a perfect world, this would all be available at our fingertips, at a moment’s notice, but the world is not perfect.

Here’s my example. I got pretty excited about the wix.com free websites that the groups used. A template driven, easy to navigate, and publish, but most importantly FREE, and without a need for HTML knowledge or whatever the hell they call it now. I thought it would be a grand idea to make my own website, featuring my business, and I could get it out on the search engines, and increase my business with little more than all this free time I DON’T have. I registered for an account with no problem. There ended the simplicity. I haven’t even been able to figure out how to change their text for mine. I have spent more time than I care to admit on a technology that all of my classmates seem to whiz through. To say I am jealous would be an understatement. Something that was easy for you guys is giving me a migraine. Just sayin’
