Jan 25

Hi my name is Megan. I am from Sacramento. I have a really large family and we always get together for every holiday. For my 18th birthday I decided to go skydiving. It’s was exciting and I plan on going bungie jumping sometime soon.

I really enjoyed this reading. I like how Szwed talked about there being several different types of literary practices. I hate how most people judge ones literaty skills based on being able to read text from a book. I also like how he mentioned that there is a difference I’m public and private literacy. I would probably never read a school mandated text for fun. Most of them are boring and lack emotion. This reading really interested me. I think Szwed’s outlook on literacy is correct and those who disagree with him are wrong!!!

  1. Hey Megan! Large families are bittersweet, huh? I can’t decide whether I like it or hate it.
I agree with you (and Szwed). No one should be judged on being able to read from a text or how fast they read. I read slower than others because English is my second language and everything but does that mean I’m illiterate? Uh no.
But yeah, total differences between what is being asked from you to read and what you choose to read, they both literacy practices, there’s no wrong or right choices!
