The idea of a literacy event seems is foreign concept to me because from what I can get out of the article is that a literacy event is an image of literacy being practice.  Furthermore it is the person who is studying  the image of the event that determine if the event is a literacy event, but won’t that mean that every image can be a literacy event or practice.

The image I pick out to be would fall into two category first would be the interaction between people and written text because the image is of a class room with kids and a teacher interacting with one another through the practice of literacy reading and writing.  Second I think it would fall under literacy of the environment because the background of the image gives information about the people and location.  Also imagine the picture without anyone in it and that it is just an empty school would that be a literacy event?  I think that it would be because the background would become the focus point and the lack of any literacy practice in a school would become the literacy event.Hmong_kids

  1. It is interesting that you point out the importance of the participants when classifying a literacy event. These images aren’t just classified by the nature of the text, but also by the people who are reading it, or who may read it. If you remove the participants from an image, the nature of the depicted event can change drastically.
